Precision Aerobatics Committee Canada

Events

This month column will feature the Precision Aerobatics report to the MAAC 2006 AGM. But first there are 2 items to bring to your attention.

The PA committee has decided to go ahead with its own website you will be able to find it at canadaf3a.org.

Secondly I would like to announce that the Thunder Tiger Canada Indoor RC Shootout will be once again held at The Hobby Show. This year we hope to expand the competition and will be having 2 skill levels of competition. More information will be coming soon.

Precision Aerobatics Report

This was another successful year for Precision Aerobatics and particular our FAI F3A team. The team was able to improve our team standings at the worlds.  As well, 2 of our pilots, Chad Northeast and Adam Glatt greatly improved their individual standings.

This year, the Precision Aerobatics Committee was made up of 19 members plus a  Chairman. I would like to thank the committee members for their participation on the committee. This year of the 19 voting ballots sent out 17 were returned promptly. Often there are some proposals that draw almost split decisions. This year however voting was almost unanimous in favor of all proposals.

The committee has decided to accept a bid from the Victoria Radio Control Modelers Society to hold the team trials for the 2007 F3A world championships. The Team trials will be held September 15 - 17, 2006.

The committee decided to launch its own official website. The site will be dedicated to promoting PA and used as a place to record and archive Canadian domestic and International competition results.

At last year’s Board meeting, the Board of Directors committed to several actions that have not occurred.  Here are excerpts from the 2004 PAC report:

the office has not been sending competition information to the committee. I am generally unaware of sanctions granted to competitions outside of my own zone, and we are not receiving competition results from the office at all. Clearly, if the committee is to act as the keeper of records for Canadian PA competitions, the sanction information and event results must be sent to the committee as soon as it is received at Head Office.”

“I would like to request that the Board investigate why all relevant information is not being forwarded to the committee in a timely fashion, and to take steps to ensure that it does so in future. If this problem cannot be solved, the committee will not be able to fulfill one of its most important obligations; that of recording and archiving Canadian PA competition results.”

In the 2005 contest season I did not receive copies of any Sanctions as Committee chairman and only results of one competition from the office. I would also request that results for all competitors from all of the competitions be reported, not just those of the top three in each class.

The PA committee is recommending that it be responsible for F3P (indoor precision aerobatics) and adopt FAI F3P rules for judging and scoring. As well, set the following classes and schedules for F3P:

The committee is recommending the following change to the rule book:

For scoring of PA contests with 4 or less rounds, best 3 scores be used to determine standings. When there are more than 4 rounds, the best 4 scores be used to determine standings. Note: a minimum of 3 rounds must be completed to make a contest official.

The committee is recommending the following: The Precision Aerobatics Committee is authorized to name a “local” contest as a Category Nat’s in the event that there is not a Combined Nationals. If financial support is required, it will be subject to MAAC board approval.

The committee has named “local” contests as a category Nats in the past with Board approval. The committee is already responsible for holding Team trials and is well-suited for making decisions related to Precision Aerobatics.
