Precision Aerobatics Committee Canada

For most of us the flying season has been off to an earlier than usual start.
However I have heard of those waiting to get their new plane going by lack of
parts or those like me being indecisive about a colour scheme. For those even
farther behind you may want to check the official Twister build thread by Chad
Northeast on RC Canada
http://rccanada.ca/bb/viewtopic.php?t=21543 My last column was my PA committee report for the MAAC annual general
meeting. I am happy to inform you that all but one of the committee proposals
were accepted. The one rejection by the MAAC board of directors was that of the
PA committee being responsible for selecting the location of any Precision
Aerobatics category Nats. One of my responsibilities is to be on the FAI F3A subcommittee. This
committee is responsible for all the technical rule changes at the FAI level. At
the present time the committee is looking at changes to FAI rules that will go
into effect January 1, 2008 for the next 4 years. If you have any thoughts about
what changes you would like to see or if you are inclined to make up a schedule
for FAI, P or F, they would be happily received by the committee. Please keep in
mind that the committee is looking at shortening the P schedules by 2 or 4
maneuvers so that it is possible to get all competitors flights in at the World
Championships. The need to shorten the schedule can be seen by using the 2007 F3A world
championships in Argentina as an example. F3A is the premier event in International competition and it is therefore
easy to understand that it is the best attended by competitors. This is where
the problem comes from. With 10 minute flights the best we can hope for is 6
flights an hour on 2 flight lines. The organizers for 2007 are expecting
approximately 130 pilots. That translates into 11 hours of flying time, not to
mention a lunch break, changing judges and warm up flights. It is also not
possible to fly immediately at sunup or dusk. Argentina is opposite to us in daylight hours and the organizers feel that it
is not possible to get a full day in with the amount of daylight they receive in
April, so the competition was moved to November. One of the other responsibilities of the F3A subcommittee as is the MAAC PA
committee now is F3P (indoor precision aerobatics). This event is taking off big
time and it is hoped that there may be a World Championships within the next
five years. Here is an early suggestion for you to get out and practice this
event as well. The Precision Aerobatics website (http://canadaf3a.org/) is off to a slow
start, but I would like to congratulate Hartley Hughson for being the first to
contribute his report on the Chilliwack Pattern Primer for the website. |
